The SIG focuses on hardware issues relating to using Linux. The meetings are typically less structured than the general LUG/IP meetings, allowing for increased interaction between members. If you need help getting Linux to run on your hardware, the SIG may just be for you! Members bring computers and other hardware and help each other out with any difficulties they may be having getting Linux installed and functioning properly. The SIG also often devotes time to general Linux, Open Source Software and other related discussions. | ||

The Linux Boot Process The Linux boot process is something that usually "just works".... until it doesn't. It's at those times when something doesn't work that some might realize "Hey! I know almost nothing about how this thing actually gets itself up and running!" This talk will cover the boot process from the Power On Self Test, to the Grub boot loader, all the way through to the loading of the kernel, the init process, and the starting of the proper services. Opportunities for customization, and common sources of trouble will be covered, and everyone is invited to share their experience along the way, or just relax and take it all in.
