I don't think it is an Ubuntu vs other distros issue, rather a desktop
vs server OS. My experiences are mostly Ubuntu and Fedora compared to
CentOS and Red Hat (OK, that is mostly redundant) ... but I believe
that the desktop OSes *do* release kernel updates more frequently.

Can anyone corroborate that theory, or am I off base here? Anyone know
if Ubuntu Server behaves any differently in this regard than Desktop?

I am also much more likely to be "admining" the servers, controlling
when something gets installed and especially when it is rebooted. With
a desktop OS I prefer to let the distro provider install and update as
frequently as they like.
