MAIN PRESENTATION
------------
Have you ever wondered to yourself how all of this technology has really
made your life better or worse? You can track your package in an instant,
and your inbox is a constant battle. Overall, how have the changes in human
communications affected the quality of our lives?
This talk will take a philosophical approach to evaluating the question.
Criteria of communication will be established with examples. The philosophy
of Plato, James, Royce, Heidegger, and Dreyfus will be considered as a
reference points for analysis. In the end, the disruption of latency will be
acknowledged along with the reality of the virtual.
----------------------------------------
Speaker Biography:
Scott Walters has fiddled with computers since a TI-99/4A. His first
experience with data communications was an Apple IIc, a 300 baud modem, and
too much time on a BBS playing Trade Wars. Now it's FaceBook and Mafia Wars.
In between, he started an internet company in 1995, did some consulting for
Mack Trucks and Volvo AB, and developed a smidget of Open Source software,
larrd, that was used with Big Brother. He is currently the Director of
Client Services at INetU Managed Hosting in Allentown PA. He finally
graduates in May from Lehigh with a degree in Philosophy (mom is so proud!).

2. LOPSA-NJ INFORMATION
--------------------
LOPSA-NJ, like our parent organization LOPSA, is dedicated to the
advancement of the profession and practice of System Administration. Toward
those ends, this chapter aims to facilitate building a community of local
contacts for us to share our experiences, solutions, tips and techniques on
addressing the technical and professional issues we encounter.
We are a platform agnostic organization, like LOPSA itself, and, as such, we
welcome and encourage network managers, Windows and UNIX systems
administrators, desktop support technicians, and anyone else that manages
computer systems to join our community.
